This Module is open for advanced Bachelor and for Master Students and identical to our well known Roscoff Excursion
In the accompanying seminar, we teach basic knowledge of marine biology. The seminar takes place partly at the Marine Biology Station in Roscoff (Brittany). There we study the fauna of marine hard and soft bottoms, rocky mudflats and sand coral reefs. We collect and identify marine organisms and carry out classic sea urchin and sea squirts fertilisation experiments. We observe the early development of sea urchins and sea squirts live. In addition, physiological and molecular/biochemical experiments are carried out, e.g. protein isolation, electrophoresis, PCR and sequencing for species identification. We even take our own fluorescence microscope to France for immunofluorescednce experiments. The Roscoff module will be supervised by Dr Maik Drechsler, Maren Janz, Prof Dr Günter Purschke and Prof Dr Achim Paululat.
The module will take place at the Marine Biological Station in Roscoff, Brittany (FR). Date: 18.05 - 28.05.2025
